I have been studying Spanish since I was in seventh grade. I little by little began to learn new vocabulary and grammar, but I have never felt like I really comprehended the language. After this semester, I finally feel like I am beginning to understand. While I know I am very far away from knowing all Spanish vocabulary, the knowledge I have acquired about conjugating and formulating sentences has greatly increased my ability has a Spanish student. While some of the basic conjugations I had learned in high school, I was presented with much more in this Spanish 102 course. I learned how to use present, preterite, imperfect, and perfect tenses. These help my ability to form sentences and my fluidity in speech. The best way to comprehend these new tenses was to simply practice. I would practice in class with my professor, in break out rooms with my peers, and on my own. I would look at conjugation diagrams and images of each tense, as I first learn best through sight. Then, I would practice creating sentences by writing them. We would do this in class in chat by answering a question asked by the professor, and then writing a full sentence response using the correct grammar specified. We would then practice with our peers in breakout rooms by completing worksheet activities. Finally, I had to start practicing by speaking the sentences with the newly learned tenses. I would do this by writing sentences and reading them out loud. Our professor would have us practice by recording ourselves telling a story using the correct tense. Combining all this practice, I feel confident in the way I structure sentences in Spanish. This is an amazing achievement for me because I have never felt very confident in my Spanish skills. I still have a long way to go from being fluent in Spanish, as I am not confident in my vocabulary knowledge. However, I know that with the practicing skills I developed here, I can get there one day.

Eating Paella
